I was interested in how the College was using video and it’s importance. Here’s the feedback I got:

The College has drastically increased it’s public relations and marketing efforts over the past 2 and half years. Dr. Hal Higdon, the College president, appreciates the importance of marketing and any/all communication’s tools at our disposal. In that regard, he allows my area to produce videos on a consistent basis. Go to www.otc.edu, and you’ll see what I mean. We pride ourselves in producing quality videos, ranging from a monthly newsletter, to profiles of College programs, events, employees, and students.

All the videos are produced in-house, produced by me, and shot and edited by two employees who have great experience as videographer/editors. Many of the videos are put together by Jeff Johnson, I know he has been involved in other projects in town, including SATO 48.

The in-house production provides the College the flexibility of producing videos at moment’s notice, and we do them so routinely a 3rd party may not be the best fit.

The response from our College community has been positive. The videos are used for many different audiences. In addition to posting them on the website, our recruiters use them during school visits and business expos. Our Foundation uses them to explain the College’s mission to current and potential donors.

As you know, user-generated content is a large segment of many websites, thus we look to supply those sites whenever possible. Video is another communications tool we have to explain the College’s mission, its value, and importance to the community. I certainly would recommend it for other organizations.

The “Tartuffe” commercial will run for 2 weeks starting this Tuesday on KOLR10 and various cable stations. We are planning to post a “Behind the Scenes” video about “Tartuffe” this week.

Unless you live on another planet, we are all aware about the popularity of viewing videos on the internet. Promotional book video ads have joined YouTube’s popular mixes of music, movies, television and comedy. Having a website for a book and/or author is no longer enough to create a buzz. The trend lately is to have a book’s synopsis turned into a mini teaser ad as more and more self-published authors, not having a major publishing house behind them to market their book, try to find new ways to get their potential reader’s attention. The video shows a teaser for the children’s book “Rita and Whatsit” by Jean-Philippe Arrou-Vignod and illustrations by Olivier Tallec. Expect much more of this type of bookvertising in the years to come.

The Wall Street Journal takes a look at The Economics of Skateboarding Videos By Conor Dougherty

The success of sites like the Berrics, which has backing from a production company that has made films including “Babel,” shows how well-done sites can quickly challenge more established players such as Skateboarding.com and ESPN’s Action Sports. Over the past few years it has become considerably easier to shoot, edit and view online video. The Berrics has daily video posts of professionals riding the park; a decade ago skaters had to wait for special videos that came out monthly, at best. A recent report from AccuStream iMedia Research found professionally produced online video grew 25% last year.

That final statement is highlighted for a reason. I think it points to the fact that not only is online video growing, but the expectations of online viewers is also growing. As you promote yourself, what level of technology and deliverable best represents your organization?
