Legal Basics For Film Makers

Participants will learn the basic legal issues that face anyone making a film, whether it’s an independent documentary, a music video, a short, or a feature film. How can you raise investment funds? What kinds of contracts and releases do you need to get from your cast and crew? How do you get music rights? What other rights or permissions do you need to get?

What do you do if a distributor is interested? We’ll address these questions and other, and sample agreements and letters will be provided.

The seminar will be presented by Rebecca Stroder of Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (KCVLAA), who is a copyright and entertainment law attorney in Kansas City and who has worked on numerous film projects, from financing to distribution.

KCVLAA ArtsSmarts classes are $10, payable at the door, but Advance registration is required.
